How to play
- Open Heremin on your Apple Watch and tap Watch only.
- Raise your forearm for higher notes and lower it for lower ones.
- Roll your wrist to set the volume: screen up is full, turned sideways is silent.
- Swing your arm sideways to change the sound: the direction your arm points when you start is a sawtooth, to the right it becomes square, to the left a pure sine.
To change what each movement does, open Movements in the menu and assign up/down, sideways and wrist roll to pitch, volume, waveform or nothing. Reset brings back the layout above. Waveform in the menu is a knob, like on a real theremin: it sets the sound whenever no movement drives the waveform.
Watch + iPhone
- Open Heremin on your iPhone, lay it on a table and keep the app open: the measurement stops when the iPhone locks.
- On the Watch, tap Watch + iPhone and allow Nearby Interaction on both devices.
- Move your wrist toward the iPhone, between about 10 and 80 cm: the closer, the higher the note.
This mode needs Ultra Wideband: Apple Watch Series 6 or later (not SE) and iPhone 11 or later.
Questions
- No sound: turn your wrist so the screen faces up, and turn the Digital Crown on the speaker icon to raise the Watch volume.
- The sound changes on its own: the sideways direction is measured from where your arm pointed when you started. Tap Stop and start again facing the way you want to play.
- “Open Heremin on iPhone”: the Watch is waiting for the iPhone app. Open it and keep it in the foreground.
- “This Watch has no UWB”: Watch + iPhone mode is not available on this Watch; Watch only works on every supported model.
Compatibility
Requires watchOS 11 or later; the iPhone app requires iOS 18 or later.
