Wristmote is a remote for Sky Q boxes on iPhone and Apple Watch, with on-screen remote buttons on both devices and optional gestures on the Watch.
Get started
- Connect the iPhone to the same Wi‑Fi as the Sky Q box and open Wristmote. Allow access to the local network when asked.
- In Settings, Wristmote lists the boxes it finds and chooses the main one. Tap another box to control a Sky Q Mini, or type the address yourself.
- Tap Test: show channel info. The channel banner should appear on the TV.
- Use the remote on the iPhone, or open Wristmote on the Apple Watch. If it is not installed, install it from the App Store on the Watch.
Gestures
- Twist right / left: channel up / down.
- Wand flick: power.
- Raise / lower the arm: up / down in menus.
Gestures count only while Wristmote is open on the Watch. It stays open while a twist turns the screen away, for up to an hour, and stops when you leave it with the Digital Crown. To change what a gesture does, scroll down to Gestures on the Watch and pick a button, or Nothing to turn it off.
Calibration
On the Watch, open Gestures → Calibrate. Record a few twists and a few wand flicks: Wristmote sets its thresholds from the way you move. The third step records everyday movements and tells you which gestures would have triggered by mistake. Reset to defaults restores the original thresholds.
Questions
- No box is found. Check that the iPhone is on the same Wi‑Fi as the box (not a guest network) and that Wristmote may use the local network in Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network. You can also type the box address, which you can find in your router’s list of devices.
- The Watch says it can’t reach the iPhone. Keep the iPhone nearby with Bluetooth on, and open Wristmote on the iPhone once after installing.
- Can I change the volume? Sky Q boxes don’t accept volume commands over the network. Add a Samsung or LG TV in Settings → TV and accept the prompt on the TV: volume and mute then go to the TV.
- Gestures trigger by mistake, or not at all. Calibrate them, or set the ones you don’t need to Nothing.
- Left and right are swapped. Wristmote uses the wrist and Digital Crown side set in the Watch app → General → Watch Orientation; make sure they match how you wear it.
